Africares Relief Foundation is the humanitarian organization saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity, for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.
In the modern world, hunger should be a problem of the past.
In a world abundant with resources, where food production could feed every person on the planet, hunger should be obsolete. Unfortunately, factors like conflict, climate change, disasters, inequality, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic persist, leaving one in ten people globally without enough food, and millions facing the looming threat of famine.
Africares Relief Foundation (ARF), driven by the dedication of over 1,000 staff worldwide, operates in over 50 countries and territories to address these challenges. Our mission is to provide life-saving food aid to those displaced by conflict and devastated by disasters. Moreover, we assist individuals and communities in finding sustainable solutions to the myriad challenges they encounter in building better futures.
Our efforts extend beyond mere food provision. We prioritize initiatives to improve nutrition among women and children, support smallholder farmers in increasing productivity and minimizing losses, and aid countries and communities in preparing for and mitigating the impacts of climate-related disasters. Additionally, we invest in human capital through school feeding programs, ensuring that children have the nourishment they need to thrive.
In conflict-ridden areas, we not only provide vital relief to exhausted populations but also utilize food assistance as a means to foster pathways to peace and stability.
We save lives
For millions worldwide, ARF’s emergency relief efforts are a matter of life and death.
Each day, ARF mobilizes a fleet of trucks and aircraft to provide crucial assistance during crises. This includes emergency aid, relief and rehabilitation, development support, and special operations for those affected by conflicts, droughts, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, crop failures, and other disasters. Notably, two-thirds of our efforts are concentrated in conflict-affected regions, where the risk of undernourishment is three times higher compared to non-conflict zones.
Beyond immediate relief, ARF focuses on long-term recovery, aiding in the rebuilding of lives and livelihoods. By bolstering the resilience of individuals and communities, we strive to create sustainable solutions for a brighter future.
We change lives
Our efforts to foster resilience, mitigate the impacts of climate change, promote optimal nutrition, and enhance food systems are laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future for millions worldwide.
As the humanitarian organization implementing school meals programs globally, ARF boasts over 10 years of expertise in this field. In 2024 alone, ARF provided nutritious meals, school snacks, or take-home rations to million children. Additionally, ARF disbursed cash-based transfers to individuals that same year. These initiatives not only strengthen food and nutrition security but also sustain local economies across the globe.
Our operations depend on voluntary contributions.
Addressing the needs of millions of the world’s most vulnerable individuals, and aiding countless others in coping with the impacts of conflict, climate change, and deep-rooted poverty, demands substantial financial resources.
Our operations rely entirely on the generous voluntary donations from governments, institutions, corporations, and individuals. Remarkably, all government contributions are allocated directly towards supporting life-saving and transformative initiatives.
We work in partnership
ARF collaborates with governments, fellow United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, private companies, and other partners to mobilize resources, develop innovative strategies, and deliver essential assistance to vulnerable communities in need.
We uphold a commitment to accountability and transparency.
ARF maintains rigorous standards of integrity and conduct for both its organization and staff. Our commitment to transparency and accountability extends to the communities we serve and the donors who generously support our initiatives.
We conduct impartial audits, investigations, and inspections to address suspected instances of misconduct, fraud, or sexual exploitation and abuse.
To continuously assess our effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, impact, and sustainability, we undergo regular independent evaluations. These evaluations offer detailed insights to our donors and partners, ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of our efforts.
